Senior Mining Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Mining Engineer you will provide expert guidance on mine engineering for surface operations, ensuring safety, efficiency and economic viability. You will lead both tactical and strategic planning, design and scheduling activities, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop short, medium and long‑term mine plans (5‑year, budget, quarterly).
• Generate and validate pit designs, dumps, haul roads and stage plans using advanced mine planning software.
• Support drill‑and‑blast planning and monitor performance to meet fragmentation, dilution and productivity targets.
• Collaborate with geology, geotechnical and operations teams to optimise resource utilisation.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the technical team.
• Interface with contractors to ensure safe and efficient execution of mine plans.
• Participate in continuous improvement, cost optimisation and risk reduction initiatives.
• Develop and manage mine development, construction and production schedules, integrating them with forecasting systems.
• Maintain production monitoring and reporting systems to track performance and identify improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of open‑pit mining experience, preferably in large‑scale operations.
• Proven ability to lead mine planning projects and mentor junior staff.
• Strong understanding of geotechnical, geological and operational interfaces.

Required skills

• Proficiency with mine planning tools such as Alastri or Vulcan.
• Experience in pit design, dump and haul‑road layout.
• Drill‑and‑blast planning and performance monitoring.
• Advanced knowledge of surface mining processes and production scheduling.
