Operations Planning Superintendent – Mining Engineer

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking an Operations Planning Superintendent to lead the daily and two‑weekly mine planning teams at its Simandou iron‑ore project in Guinea. The role combines technical leadership with hands‑on responsibility for short‑term mine development design, sequencing, drilling and blasting strategies, and grade management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and build the site daily and two‑weekly mine planning team.
• Develop and implement short‑term mine development designs and sequencing strategies.
• Oversee drilling and blasting plans and ensure alignment with operational targets.
• Manage daily grade control and coordinate the site surveyors team.
• Liaise with the supply‑chain team to manage ore process flow.
• Collaborate with the Medium‑Term Planning Superintendent to ensure consistency with quarterly and five‑year plans.
• Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and field leadership to the Technical Services team.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading mine planning teams in a large‑scale mining operation.
• Strong understanding of short‑term (daily/2‑weekly) and medium‑term (quarterly/5‑year) planning processes.
• Demonstrated ability to develop drilling, blasting, and sequencing strategies.
• Leadership and coaching skills to mentor technical staff.
