Drill and Blast Manager

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking an experienced Drill and Blast Manager to lead all fragmentation activities across its multi‑pit open‑pit operations in Africa. The role combines strategic planning, technical execution, and workforce development to ensure safe, precise and cost‑effective blasting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of drill and blast programmes across multiple large‑scale pits.
• Champion a "Zero Harm" safety culture and ensure full compliance with explosive regulations and environmental limits.
• Implement and optimise advanced electronic blasting systems (EBS) for high‑precision timing and wall stability.
• Coordinate with the Processing Plant Manager to align fragmentation with mill throughput.
• Own the OPEX budget, drive cost‑per‑ton optimisation and develop CAPEX business cases for new equipment and autonomous technology.
• Audit and control on‑site explosives manufacturing to meet strict density, sensitivity and composition specifications.
• Design and run mentorship programmes to transfer technical knowledge to local engineers and operators.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in drill and blast management within large open‑pit mining operations.
• Strong track record of safety leadership and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, lead contractors and develop capital projects.
• Commitment to developing local talent and fostering a collaborative team environment.
