Legal Director – Mining Operations

About the role

The Legal Director will serve as the principal legal advisor for the company’s Guinea operations, reporting to the Vice President, Legal West Africa. This senior position combines hands‑on advisory work with corporate governance, contract negotiation, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on mining‑related, commercial, regulatory, labour, environmental and corporate matters.
• Lead the legal function in Guinea, develop internal capability and streamline legal processes.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, contracts and other legal documents, focusing on risk allocation and compliance.
• Oversee company secretarial matters, including governance documentation, statutory filings and corporate compliance.
• Advise on government, community and stakeholder engagements, land access, compensation and human‑rights issues.
• Partner with HR on labour law, employee relations, disciplinary matters and investigations.
• Manage external counsel, litigation, disputes and legal expenditures.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise on business implications.

Required profile

• Recognised law degree with professional qualifications; must have passed or be willing to pass the Guinean Bar exam.
• Guinean legal professional, currently working internationally or residing in Guinea.
• Strong senior legal advisory experience, able to advise executive and operational stakeholders independently.
• Deep knowledge of Guinean commercial, corporate, labour and mining legislation.
• Proven expertise in contract drafting, negotiation and legal risk management.
• Experience in mining or advising mining‑sector clients is strongly preferred.
• Fluent in professional French and English, plus proficiency in a local Guinean language (e.g., Malinké, Pular, Soussou).
• Willingness to be based full‑time in Conakry.
