Senior Mining Specialist

About the role

The Senior Mining Specialist will be based in the World Bank country office in Conakry, Guinea, and will lead the design and implementation of mining sector operations and knowledge activities across Guinea and, over time, the wider West African region.

Key responsibilities

• Lead dialogue with the Government of Guinea and sector stakeholders to develop a new World Bank‑Guinea country compact, focusing on policy reform and investment origination.
• Supervise the mining component of the Guinea Natural Resources, Mining and Environmental Management Project, managing up to US$40 million in financing.
• Provide cross‑support to World Bank teams on the Simandou corridor and other mineral development initiatives.
• Advise governments in West Africa on policy, fiscal, regulatory and institutional frameworks for mineral development, processing and mine closure.
• Lead technical discussions on institutional development, permitting, artisanal mining, ESG standards and carbon market considerations.
• Collaborate with private‑sector investment teams and regional partners to advance mining and infrastructure agendas.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or higher in mining, engineering, geology, public policy, economics, management or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience, preferably with exposure to African mining sectors.
• Extensive experience in mining sector policy, regulation, institutional reform and large‑scale mining investments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑country programs and work in multicultural environments.
• Fluency in English and French with strong written communication skills.
