Legal Director – Guinea

About the role

The Legal Director for Guinea will lead AngloGold Ashanti’s legal function in Conakry, reporting to the Vice President, Legal West Africa. This senior position provides strategic legal counsel across all aspects of mining operations, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Guinea legal team, fostering high‑performance delivery of legal services.
• Design and implement business processes, including contract review systems, to ensure timely legal support.
• Manage external counsel relationships, negotiate fees and monitor service quality.
• Provide strategic advice on company policies, labour matters, contract negotiations, community relations, environmental compliance, health & safety, and mining operations.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts and legal documents.
• Support community and sustainability projects, ensuring alignment with local laws and Group policies.
• Guide HR on labour law, employee relations, disciplinary procedures and investigations.
• Oversee company secretarial duties, statutory filings and corporate governance for all Guinea entities.
• Develop and control the legal department budget and recruit/mentor legal talent.

Required profile

• First degree in Law from a recognised institution with appropriate professional qualifications.
• Extensive knowledge of mining law, environmental regulations and related legal frameworks.
• Proven experience leading a legal function in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment.
