Director, Legal (Guinea)

About the role

As the Director, Legal – Guinea at AngloGold Ashanti, based in our Conakry office, you will report directly to the Vice President, Legal West Africa. You will serve as the principal legal advisor and strategic leader for all legal and company secretarial functions supporting the company’s operations in Guinea.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Guinea Legal department, delivering expert legal advisory services aligned with corporate strategy and risk management.
• Design and implement business processes, including contract review systems, to ensure timely and accurate legal service delivery.
• Manage relationships with external legal providers, negotiate cost‑effective agreements and monitor service quality.
• Provide strategic legal oversight on company policies, labour management, contract negotiations, community relations, environmental compliance, health & safety, and mining operations.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts and legal documents, safeguarding AngloGold Ashanti’s interests.
• Support community and sustainability initiatives by reviewing land acquisition, compensation and human‑rights agreements.
• Guide HR on labour law matters, employee relations and internal investigations.
• Oversee company secretarial responsibilities, statutory filings and corporate governance documentation.
• Develop and manage the legal department budget and monitor external counsel expenditures.

Required profile

• A first degree in Law from a recognised institution with appropriate professional qualifications.
• Extensive knowledge of mining law, environmental legislation, labour law and related regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience managing legal risks and providing actionable advice to senior leadership.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop a high‑performing team.
