Specialist Bulk Earth Works – Open Pit Mining

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Specialist Bulk Earth Works to support day‑to‑day open‑pit mining activities at the Simandou Project. This field‑focused position works closely with supervisors, operators, and contractors to ensure safe, consistent production aligned with the mining plan.

Key responsibilities

• Support daily pit activities to meet plan and shift targets.
• Collaborate with shift supervisors and operators during dig, load, haul, and dump operations.
• Monitor field conditions and equipment performance, escalating issues early.
• Maintain a strong, visible presence in the pit to promote safety and communication.
• Assist with short‑term planning, equipment allocation, and shift coordination.
• Review pit layouts, dig blocks, and sequences for safe execution.
• Collect production data, report variances, and identify improvement opportunities.
• Liaise with Technical Services, Geology, and Maintenance to reduce delays.
• Conduct pit checks, hazard reporting, and follow‑up on corrective actions.
• Support incident investigations and compliance inspections.
• Coach less‑experienced personnel and foster an inclusive work environment.

Required profile

• Experience in open‑pit mining operations (load & haul, drill & blast, or similar).
• Strong practical understanding of daily mining processes.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Good communication skills and ability to work across teams.
• International or remote‑site experience is an advantage.
• Fluent English required; additional languages such as French or Mandarin are a plus.
