About the role
ESS is seeking an Environmental & Social (E&S) Specialist to support its consultancy work in Guinea. The specialist will contribute to the delivery of environmental and social assessments, due‑diligence studies and compliance monitoring for projects in mining, energy, infrastructure and other sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and support Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) and related technical reports.
- Conduct baseline studies, field investigations, site assessments and ongoing monitoring activities.
- Identify environmental and social risks and propose mitigation and management measures.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement, including community consultations and meetings with government authorities.
- Monitor compliance with permits, management plans and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development and tracking of Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs) and project‑specific management plans.
- Participate in site inspections and follow‑up on performance during implementation.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, local authorities and communities.
- Support business development activities such as technical proposals and bids.
- Mentor junior team members and interns where needed.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resources, Geography, Social Sciences, Sustainability or a related field (Master’s degree advantageous).
- 3–8 years of experience in environmental and social consulting, preferably on mining, infrastructure, energy or industrial projects.
- Proven experience with ESIA, ESMP, due‑diligence, auditing or monitoring assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct fieldwork and engage stakeholders.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of Guinean environmental and social legislation, international standards and best practices.
