Principal Advisor MPP

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager, the Principal Advisor MPP acts as a trusted partner to Rio Tinto’s senior leadership team. The role focuses on strengthening leadership capability, embedding operating systems, and driving sustainable operational excellence across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Coach and mentor operational leaders to improve decision‑making and leadership capability.
• Embed Rio Tinto Operating Systems, standards and governance throughout the operation.
• Support safety performance, operational discipline and reliability improvements.
• Conduct operational health checks and identify performance‑enhancing opportunities.
• Facilitate continuous‑improvement initiatives and structured problem‑solving.
• Guide implementation of operating rhythms, governance forums and performance‑management processes.
• Assist with operational readiness, commissioning and ramp‑up activities.
• Build national‑workforce capability through coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, HSE, Operational Readiness and Project teams to lift overall performance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in large‑scale Rio Tinto mining operations.
• Deep understanding of Rio Tinto operating systems, governance and operational‑excellence practices.
• Proven success coaching senior operational leaders and frontline teams.
• Track record of implementing management operating systems and driving organisational capability improvements.
