Production Supervisor - Simandou Mine

About the role

Rio Tinto is hiring a Production Supervisor for its Simandou iron ore project in Guinea, a site-based role on a 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off (4:2) roster on a FIFO basis back to home base. Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, the supervisor ensures daily mining operations run safely and that production targets are met, while focusing heavily on training, upskilling and mentoring national supervisors. The role bridges planning and execution, turning mine plans into field activities, and works with Mine Operations, Dispatch, HSEC, CCR, Maintenance, Plant and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and dumping activities
• Keep operations aligned with short-term mine plans and production schedules
• Coordinate shifts and ensure smooth handovers between crews
• Lead, coach and develop operators, contractors and technicians
• Run pre-start safety meetings and daily briefings, enforce safety standards and intervene in unsafe behaviour
• Manage workforce discipline, attendance and performance
• Monitor production rates, cycle times and equipment utilization, identify bottlenecks and optimize loading and hauling efficiency
• Coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime, allocate equipment and personnel, and ensure consumables are available
• Take part in incident investigations and improvement initiatives
• Deliver daily and weekly production targets (tonnage, BCM, ore delivery), equipment availability and cost per tonne mined, and track safety indicators such as TRIFR and near-miss reporting

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mining Engineering or a related field (desirable)
• Proven leadership experience in a supervisory or management role
• Experience working with contractors in large-scale open pit mining and in remote or international mining operations
• Training and assessment qualifications, and proven ability to train and mentor personnel, are advantageous
• Proficiency in French and Mandarin (written and verbal) is highly desirable
