About the role
The Senior Manager Training & Capability Development leads the design and execution of Rio Tinto's learning, training, leadership and workforce capability strategy, ensuring employees, leaders and contractors have the knowledge and skills needed for safe and effective performance. The role supports the Simandou project ramp‑up and contributes to SIMFER’s safety, production, cost and localisation objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement an enterprise‑wide training and capability development strategy aligned with business goals.
- Establish governance frameworks, standards and policies for learning, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Design and deliver technical, operational, leadership and professional development programmes for all workforce levels.
- Lead workforce capability planning for major projects, ensuring employees are trained before deployment.
- Partner with HR, Operations, Technical Functions and external providers to identify capability gaps and drive knowledge transfer.
- Develop metrics, dashboards and ROI analysis to continuously improve learning effectiveness.
Required profile
- Fluent in French and English with 10‑15 years of experience in learning, training, organisational development or workforce capability.
- Proven experience in large‑scale industrial, mining or infrastructure environments, preferably in Africa or low‑literacy contexts.
- Track record of establishing enterprise learning strategies, managing large training budgets and leading competency management programmes.
- Ability to work under pressure in challenging, geographically dispersed operations.
Required skills
- Experience implementing Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Expertise in designing blended and digital learning solutions.
- Strong capability in competency framework development and workforce certification.
