Senior Mechanical Engineer – Plant Reliability

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead equipment reliability across the plant, from crushing to train load‑out. The role focuses on delivering safe, efficient, and cost‑effective operations while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end plant performance, ensuring safe and reliable equipment operation.
• Validate mechanical completion, oversee commissioning, and manage punch‑list and NCR items.
• Drive systematic clearance of non‑conformances post‑commissioning.
• Mentor execution teams to build local capability and a reliability culture.
• Oversee mechanical scope for plant upgrades, modifications, and large‑scale shutdowns, delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Improve equipment reliability above 95% and overall equipment effectiveness above 85%.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute shutdowns and major overhauls.
• Perform Root Cause Analysis on recurring failures and implement permanent solutions.
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service personnel to ensure quality and compliance.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting of mechanical faults and ensure modifications meet OEM standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams in a heavy‑industry or mining environment.
• Strong background in mechanical engineering with a focus on reliability and maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large‑scale projects, upgrades, and shutdowns safely and on budget.
• Commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
