Senior Supervisor - Auto Electrical & Condition Monitoring

About the role

The Senior Supervisor will lead auto‑electrical maintenance, troubleshooting and condition monitoring for the heavy mining equipment fleet, workshops and supporting field infrastructure. The role combines technical oversight, safety governance and workforce development to ensure high equipment availability and a zero‑harm environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily, weekly and long‑term auto‑electrical maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs for the heavy mining equipment fleet, workshops and field infrastructure.
• Apply industry best‑practice preventative maintenance and diagnostic techniques to minimise unplanned downtime and optimise equipment availability.
• Collaborate with the HME Planning team to execute scheduled work scopes, component replacements and major overhauls efficiently.
• Lead a zero‑harm safety culture by enforcing high‑voltage/low‑voltage isolation, lock‑out/tag‑out and arc‑flash protocols and championing risk‑assessment tools.
• Supervise, mentor and develop the national auto‑electrical workforce through structured training, performance evaluations and succession planning.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of hands‑on experience maintaining electrical and electronic systems on heavy mining equipment such as Caterpillar, Epiroc and Komatsu.
• At least 8 years in a supervisory or leadership role within an open‑pit mining operation, preferably in Africa or other developing regions.
• Formal trade qualification, Red Seal or national diploma in auto‑electrics, electrical engineering or a related heavy‑equipment discipline.
• Valid driver’s licence and proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS (Pronto or SAP).

Required skills

• Expertise with OEM diagnostic tools (e.g., Cat ET) and computerized maintenance management systems.
• Deep knowledge of DC electrical circuits, CANbus networks, electronic control modules and high‑voltage auxiliary systems.
• Ability to rebuild starters, alternators and service air‑conditioning systems on heavy earth‑moving assets.
• Strong analytical capability for root‑cause analysis and failure trend tracking.
