Bulk Earthworks Manager

About the role

The Bulk Earthworks (BEW) Manager leads large‑scale earthmoving activities for Rio Tinto’s Simandou project in Guinea, one of the world’s biggest integrated mining developments. The role ensures safe, efficient and cost‑effective execution of cut‑and‑fill, haulage, embankments, platforms and rail formation work.

Key responsibilities

• Lead execution of high‑volume earthworks across multiple work fronts, managing millions of cubic metres of material.
• Align operations with engineering designs, specifications and construction sequencing.
• Optimize haulage routes, fleet allocation and cycle times using fleet‑management and digital tools.
• Oversee large fleets of excavators, dozers, graders and off‑highway trucks.
• Manage EPC contractors and subcontractors, ensuring safety, cost and schedule performance.
• Monitor cost per BCM, identify cost‑saving opportunities and support contract management.
• Champion Rio Tinto’s “Safe Production” culture and ensure compliance with Guinean regulations and international HSE standards.
• Integrate environmental considerations, minimise land disturbance and manage erosion control.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading bulk earthworks operations in mining or large‑scale construction.
• Strong background in heavy equipment fleet management and contractor coordination.
• Demonstrated focus on safety, cost control and schedule adherence.
• Ability to work on a remote site and manage multiple stakeholder interfaces.
