HSSE Manager – Health, Safety, Sustainability & Environmental

About the role

The HSSE Manager will lead the health, safety, sustainability and environmental programme for a large construction/mining project. Reporting directly to the Project Director, the role ensures compliance with legislation, employer requirements and international standards while fostering a safe, responsible work culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve the Project HSSE Plan in line with legal and contractual obligations.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with HSSE procedures, standards and ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
• Advise project teams on HSSE risks, mitigation measures and regulatory obligations.
• Ensure HSSE personnel are qualified, trained and competent for project activities.
• Prepare, maintain and distribute HSSE manuals, risk assessments, emergency response plans and related documentation.
• Conduct inspections, audits, investigations and compliance reviews for the project, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Report, investigate and close incidents, accidents, near‑misses and environmental events with corrective actions.
• Coordinate HSSE matters with the employer, authorities, subcontractors and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Technical certification in Occupational Safety and Health (mandatory).
• 5–10 years of experience in HSSE roles on construction or mining projects.
• Fluency in French and/or English.
• Strong communication, leadership and conflict‑management abilities.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards and audits.
• Experience using MS Office.
• Familiarity with SAP (preferred).
• Occupational Safety and Health certification.
