MPP Operation Advisor

About the role

The MPP Operation Advisor is a subject‑matter expert responsible for developing and implementing safe, efficient operating standards across the MPP (crushing circuit to train load‑out) at Rio Tinto. The role combines procedure design, training development and continuous‑improvement activities to meet production, availability and product‑specification targets while safeguarding safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement safe operating procedures for crushing, stacking, reclaiming, blending, train load‑out (TLO), dozing and stockpile inventory management.
• Establish KPIs, apply SPS and ownership culture, monitor, analyse and report operational performance.
• Drive continuous improvement using 5S, clean‑to‑inspect, data analysis, condition monitoring and interface management between Operations, Maintenance and technical services.
• Coordinate with OEM to create training manuals and verification assessment checklists, including troubleshooting guides.
• Manage relationship with central training department to align competency standards with Simandou training frameworks and OEM specifications.
• Coach and mentor supervisors and operators to prevent over‑stacking, boom collisions, chute blockages and excessive dust.
• Design stockpile inventory management diagrams and blending strategies that meet customer specifications.
• Ensure compliance with Rio Tinto safety, health and environmental policies.
• Conduct gap analysis and lead HIRA reviews and field walk‑downs to improve ways of working.
• Promote a housekeeping and 5S culture across the MPP operation.
• Use inventory management systems (e.g., SCADA, ROMpad, Pitram) to monitor ore movements and maintain accurate records.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an operations advisor or similar role in mining or heavy‑industry environments.
• Strong knowledge of safe operating procedure development and SPS (Safety, Performance, Sustainability) principles.
• Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training programmes and competency frameworks.
• Experience coordinating with OEMs and central training functions.
• Ability to coach front‑line supervisors and operators on operational best practices.
• Familiarity with inventory management, blending and stockpile control concepts.
• Understanding of HIRA methodology and gap‑analysis techniques.
• Commitment to adhering to safety, health and environmental standards.
