Senior Hydrogeologist

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a dynamic Senior Hydrogeologist to join the Water Management team on the Simandou Project in Guinea. The role provides technical leadership for groundwater data management, analysis and reporting across construction and operational phases, turning complex datasets into reliable, decision‑ready insights.

Key responsibilities

• Lead groundwater data management systems, ensuring robust data governance and version control for all sources (VWPs, standpipes, barometers, water quality and pumping).
• Perform QA/QC on groundwater data, including validation, error resolution and documentation of workflows.
• Develop and maintain data standards, collection protocols, transformation rules and naming conventions.
• Integrate data from monitoring networks, telemetry systems and contractors into centralised databases (Excel, MonitorPro, PowerBI).
• Ensure datasets are fit‑for‑purpose for operational decision‑making, dashboards and reporting.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, system optimisation and reduction of manual handling.
• Support integration of groundwater data with site water balances (Goldsim), 2D/3D groundwater modelling and mine planning tools.

Required profile

• A strong passion for hydrogeology and groundwater science.
• Enthusiasm for motivating and mentoring team members in highly technical work.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, FIFO (4/2) roster environment.
