Superintendent Mining Engineer

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Superintendent Mining Engineer to lead and expand the mine planning function for its Simandou iron ore project. You will shape medium‑ and long‑term mine plans, guide design and sequencing strategies, and work closely with operations, life‑of‑mine, and technical services teams.

Key responsibilities

• Build and manage the site mining engineering team responsible for quarterly and 5‑year mine plans.
• Develop and implement short‑, medium‑, and long‑term mine design and sequencing strategies.
• Align mine planning outputs with the overall Life of Mine plan and operational targets.
• Support the Mine Technical Services Superintendent with two‑week production plans and rail‑system deliveries.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the site Technical Services team.
• Collaborate with contractors to communicate design and planning requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in large‑scale mining operations and mine planning.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong commitment to safety and inclusive workplace culture.
