General Manager HSE – Simandou Mining Project

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a General Manager HSE to lead health, safety and environmental performance across the Simandou Project in Guinea, a large integrated mining development that includes a 50 Mtpa mine, a 650 km rail network and port facilities. The role will guide HSE strategy from final construction through operational readiness to steady‑state operations.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure a robust HSE Management System aligned with Rio Tinto and regulatory requirements.
• Deliver HSE performance across the mine, rail and port interfaces and support InfraCo interactions.
• Lead HSE strategy through construction, operational readiness and transition to steady‑state operations.
• Drive a visible, credible and consistent safety culture across a multi‑contractor workforce.
• Manage risk in a complex, multi‑partner environment and embed consistent HSE standards.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in HSE for large‑scale mining or infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and develop safety culture across diverse teams.
• Strong understanding of regulatory and industry HSE standards.
• Experience managing multi‑contractor environments and complex project interfaces.
