Specialist Project Engineer

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Specialist Project Engineer to join the Water Management team on the Simandou Project in Guinea. The role focuses on delivering civil engineering designs, reviews, implementation and QA/QC for infrastructure that supports mine construction and operation phases.

Key responsibilities

• Lead coordination and review of complex civil engineering designs with consultants, ensuring alignment with HSE standards and site‑specific criteria.
• Develop and communicate engineering designs with Mine Technical Services, Operations and contractors, addressing environmental, safety and operational impacts.
• Create in‑house systems and processes for stormwater management, erosion and sediment control to meet ESIA commitments.
• Oversee implementation, QA/QC and schedule adherence of approved designs, providing technical sign‑off to reduce risk of design flaws.
• Contribute to Simfer’s surface water management standards, oversee flood risk assessments and prepare annual wet‑season management plans.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and contractors to ensure timely, resource‑aligned implementation.
